Thanksgiving Circle Time Games: Letters & Sounds

Are you ready for some new games to add some variety to your circle time? Then you’re going to love these Thanksgiving circle time games! All three of them focus on letters & sounds, so your kiddos will think they’re just playing a fun game. But, you’ll be sneaking in tons of learning at the same time!

 

Gobble! Gobble!

I love, love, love this game! It’s known by many different names. I think the most common names are “Kaboom!” and “Bang!” But, no matter what you call it, your kiddos will love it! This one is called “Gobble! Gobble!” because, well… it’s turkeys! The goal of the game is to collect all the corn before the turkey gobbles it up. You collect the corn by pulling a stick from the can and naming the letter (or the sound) that is on the corn cob. If you get it right, you keep the corn! But, if you pick a stick with a turkey on it, everyone calls out “Gobble! Gobble!” and all the corn has to go back into the can. If you want the game to go on forever, then just keep putting the turkey sticks back in after someone picks them. But, if you’re like me and you’d like to keep the game shorter, you can keep the turkey sticks out after they’re chosen. That way you will eventually pick all the corn sticks because there won’t be any more turkeys to come gobble them up!

 

Pilgrim, Where’s Your Hat?

The pesky turkey is up to no-good in this fun game! He keeps taking the pilgrim’s hat, and the only way to get it back is to name the letter (or letter sound) that is printed on the hat! You can let your kiddos take turns being the “turkey” and choosing a hat to take, and whoever says the correct name of the letter gets to be the turkey next. It’s a little hard to see the chant in the picture, so here it is:

Pilgrim, pilgrim, where's your hat?
The turkey took it just like that!
Guess where? It's on his head.
He'll give it back when the letter is said!

 

Turkeys on the Ground

This is another one of those games that I love to make for any and EVERY theme! It’s so simple to play, and the kiddos always love it! Just lay all the turkeys on the floor, say the chant together, and choose a kiddo to pick a turkey and name the letter sound. That’s it! I really love the fact that the chant and game are simple enough that you can put it in a center once your kiddos know how to play, and they’ll be able to play it without needing any assistance!

Are your kiddos not quite ready for letter sounds yet? Maybe you’re still needing to work on naming the letters. Then you can just switch out the chant to this one, and now you’re working on letter names!

 

You can easily DIY all of these games! If you have access to a die cut machine or a Cricut, you can cut out the shapes and write the letters on them. You are MORE than welcome to use my chants in your classroom! (Just make sure you give me credit with a link back to this post if you decide to post about it!)
